Checking shopping links before a seasonal campaign
Use a placement list and public phone checks to find wrong products, expired offers and failed shopping routes.
List every shopping action the seasonal campaign will publish. Check each route against the finished asset. Repeat the important checks after publication. A link that opens is still wrong if it presents another item, an expired offer or an unavailable advertised variant.
Build the campaign placement list
Log scheduled and paid social posts, product tags, profile actions and campaign collections. For each, note the exact item or variant promised, destination, offer period, intended delivery area and person who can change it. Include older active placements that point to a campaign page due to change during the promotion.
Choose a destination that fits the message. A post about one item should make that item easy to find. A collection can suit a post presenting several choices if the advertised products are clear there. If an item is missing, change the message or hold that action; a vaguely related replacement does not fulfil the original promise.
Check both sides of release
A preview can reveal a wrong address or selected product. It cannot establish what shoppers will see after the placement is public. For each important route:
- Open the finished customer-facing asset on a phone, without relying on an editor preview.
- Use its shopping action and note redirects or errors.
- Compare the landing item, variant, pack contents, price and offer conditions with the asset.
- Select the advertised version and continue to cart or order review without submitting an order.
- Record the last correct screen, first mismatch, owner and repeat check.
Use the intended Australian delivery area when availability or delivery wording depends on location. Reaching order review checks only the route through that point; it does not verify a completed purchase.
Check the finished campaign post itself to confirm it opens the intended offer.
Decide what can go live
Check publication timing against the offer’s start and end, current price and stated delivery conditions. The ACCC can require businesses to back up claims made on social media. It may investigate or take compliance or enforcement action if a business makes false or misleading claims in social media advertising. Hold or correct a placement if its promise is unsupported by the destination.
Mark each placement ready, needs correction or held. After a fix, repeat the check from the public asset. Keep the list until the campaign ends, then inspect still-active posts and destinations so an expired seasonal offer is not presented as current. This is a campaign-wide release decision; a single broken profile link can be diagnosed separately.
