Matching a creator's demonstrated product to the correct listing
Check the exact product, variant, included items and public shopping route before linking a creator demonstration to a listing.
A shoppable creator post should open the listing for the item the viewer saw, including the correct variant and what is included. Matching only the brand or product family can send a shopper to a different size, colour, model or bundle. Make that match before the post goes live and repeat the check when the catalogue changes.
Identify what the video actually shows
Watch the finished content without relying on the creator's brief. Record the visible product, model, size, colour, pack contents and accessories.
Check any spoken or on-screen claim about the offer. If the creator uses a sample, prototype or older version, decide whether it is accurate to link a current retail listing at all. If two items appear, make clear which item the shopping action selects.
Give the asset a simple record with its creator, post version, demonstrated SKU or variant, intended listing and review date. This is a working control, not a new catalogue system. It lets someone spot a mismatch when a variant is replaced or a bundle changes.
Compare the listing in the customer's view
Open the destination as a public shopper in the intended Australian market. Compare the main image, variant selected, product title, price, availability and included items with the demonstration.
Continue to the buying step to see whether the selected variant remains correct. A default product page that silently switches to another colour is a mismatch even if the product name looks right.
Platform-specific requirements may apply to product tagging. Check the current guidance for the setup in use and confirm the selected item in the public route. Other platforms and setups may work differently, so test the actual public route rather than assuming the tag behaves the same way.
Creator Demonstration vs. Customer View: Key Elements to Verify
- Main image
- Must match exactly as shown in video
- Selected variant (size, colour, model)
- Must match demonstrated variant
- Product title
- Must reflect what’s shown, not just brand or family
- Price
- Must match advertised offer
- Availability
- Must reflect current stock status in Australia
- Included items and accessories
- Must match what’s demonstrated
Decide what to do when there is no exact match
If a shown accessory is sold separately, make that clear in the content or listing and choose an appropriate route. If the demonstrated variant is unavailable, remove or update the shopping action; do not silently substitute a related item.
If the listing is accurate but the content is old, consider whether the content still represents what a customer can buy now. Check the route again after a product edit, promotion or stock change.
A change to product data is not proof of what a shopper currently sees. The final check is the public post opening the intended, purchasable item at the offer described.
