Recording questions that product content should answer
Turn recurring social shopping questions into verified product information without copying private customer details.
Record recurring pre-purchase questions so product and content teams can fix information shoppers cannot find. Capture the decision behind the question, the product or variant, the missing fact and where it arose. A content backlog does not need a transcript with customer details.
Capture the gap
A useful record identifies what shoppers are trying to establish and what the current listing fails to explain. Keep the record short:
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Product and variant | Keeps the answer tied to the correct item |
| Question in plain language | Shows the buying decision being blocked |
| Current answer or unknown | Separates a content gap from an unverified product fact |
| Where the question arose | Shows whether the gap is in a post, listing or product page |
| Owner and review date | Gives the correction a route to completion |
Leave out names, account handles, addresses and order numbers. An individual order problem belongs in the support case.
Repeated questions may point to unclear copy, a missing measurement, an unhelpful image or conflicting descriptions; more text is not always the fix.
Prioritise and verify
Group questions by the decision they affect, such as fit, compatibility, included items, use conditions, delivery or returns. Look for repeated questions and for missing conditions that could cause someone to choose the wrong item. A less frequent question may still matter if it materially changes the offer.
Confirm the answer with the owner of the product fact before publishing it. Do not convert a support guess into a compatibility or performance claim. The ACCC can require businesses to back up claims they make about their products or services. Put important qualifications with the answer.
Choose a format that helps at the point of choice: specifications for measurements, a labelled image for a visible variant difference, or a short demonstration for a use question. Keep the underlying product record current.
Review the change
After updating the content, check the actual page or post to see whether the answer is findable and clear. Record what changed and when. Then read a sample of later questions. If the same question persists, the answer may be hard to find or may still omit a condition shoppers need.
A fall in question volume may suggest improvement, but traffic, promotions and product changes can affect the count. Use it as a prompt to inspect the content, not as proof that the edit caused the change.
